I serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community partners, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across all stakeholders. I also support student and family engagement by building strong relationships and fostering trust within the school community. In my role, I work to increase participation in family engagement initiatives, making sure families feel informed, empowered, and involved in their children’s education. I also help coordinate events, share resources, and advocate for family voices in school decision-making. My goal is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment where every student and family feels seen, heard, and supported.

Wilson Simpson

Student U Community School Coordinator | Lakewood High School

Wilson's Why:

Some of my values are respect for others, developing my best self, honesty, and giving back to the community. I invest in Student U because it gives me the wonderful opportunity to grow our tight-knit community. I believe that every child should have a plan leading up to graduation and should have exposure to trade schools, enlistment in the armed forces, business ownership, and college, so they have the best chance at success.

Wilson outside of Student U:

I love coaching kids in T-Ball and Football. It’s a fun way to stay active and give back. Watching the kids grow in confidence and learn to work together is one of the most rewarding experiences. I also play golf with my family fairly often, and it’s our way of spending time together, catching up, and having a few laughs, along with some friendly competition. I also volunteer at my church, helping out wherever I’m needed. My faith and community are extremely important to me, so I strive to stay involved and support others as much as possible.

Advice Wilson finds valuable:

“Focus on the smaller wins/goals and these will lead to big achievements.”

Other organizations Wilson is involved with:

North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services Food Pantry
SPARCs Cohort 13

Colleges:

Auburn University

Course of study:

Aviation Management

Professional accomplishments:

With nearly 18 years of experience in the school system, some of my most meaningful accomplishments have involved supporting students who initially lacked confidence and helping them grow into successful high school graduates.

Collaborating closely with families, educators, staff, and students toward a shared goal has been both powerful and deeply rewarding.
