Summer Academy 2022

Student U’s Summer Academy is a core component of our college access and success programming for students. Summer Academy is a 5-week, full-day program for our rising 6th-10th grade students that includes academic programming, enrichment opportunities, intentional community building, and exposure to college and career options.

We had a wonderful summer with all of our students energizing our community and sharing their brilliance. We saw tremendous growth in students’ academics this summer. On pre and post-assessments for summer classes, students averaged 20% growth. Math is one of the highest areas of growth. Week 1 – Energize Your Community

Our first week of Summer Academy was filled with learning, positive energy, brilliance, and JOY!

Week 2 – Achieve Greatness

Our students continued to achieve greatness by learning and challenging themselves in their classes.

Week 3 – Respect Yourself and Others + Discover Your Best Self

This week students learned about different fields of work and participated in professionalism workshops.

Week 4 – Dream Fearlessly

This was Spirit Week! Our students dressed in a different theme each day, and many students took field trips around Durham.

Week 5 – Achieve Greatness

To celebrate the end of the summer, we had Olympic Day, where students competed against each other in various field activities and held Brill Bash for students and staff to share their talents and gifts.
