Returning to Student U

Muriel SmithAfter eight years of working in schools, I returned to Student U because I was eager to support students from a different vantage point. Returning to Student U as the Program Director has allowed me to serve more students and shape our programming to ensure we are effectively meeting the needs of the students in our community. Specifically, this year, I am looking forward to bringing new ideas into our Summer Academy and teaching a sewing class during Wellness Wednesdays at Middle School YRP.

In my first three months, I have been impressed by the thoughtfulness of our programming. We begin with college graduation in mind, and everything we do is driving towards that outcome. The secret to our success lies in the dedication and investment of our staff. I am grateful to work with people who are continually evaluating the impact of our programming and thinking about the experiences our students have and those that our students are missing.

In the future, I look forward to supporting Student U’s vision for academic excellence in programming. I believe that this will allow us to deepen our impact on students’ post-secondary opportunities. I am excited about this charge.

My hope for our broader community is that everyone can find a way to invest in our schools. To every parent, teacher, student, and community member, I encourage you to stay involved. Find ways to volunteer at your local school (or at Student U!). Not only will you get to share your brilliance, but I’m confident you will walk away amazed by the brilliance of the students and educators you meet.

My best,

Muriel Smith, Program Director
