What Our College Students Have Been Up to This Spring & Summer

From Florence to New York City, from internships to graduate school, Student U students and graduates have been going places this spring and summer, literally! They’ve studied abroad, explored career paths, made new memories, supported first-year college students, earned degrees, and taken their next steps after graduation. Here’s a look at what they’ve been up to.

Kayla Simpson | UNC Charlotte ’28

IDOC (Impacting Disparities in Optometric Care) Internship

Kayla participated in the IDOC internship from June 7–11.

“In this internship, I was able to network, meet new people, and experience what optometry school would be like at Ohio State University. I gained clinical experience, learned about different residencies, received some information on the OAT exam, had some conversations with professors, and was able to get the Buckeye experience.”

Seema Gonzalez Rodriguez | NC State ’28

Study Abroad: Florence, Italy

Seema spent 10 days studying abroad in Florence, Italy, in May.

“During May, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy, for 10 days. I learned about the Italian Renaissance and visited the Duomo, the David, the Uffizi, and many cathedrals in order to better understand its history and story. I loved seeing the beautiful city and just walking around. I met amazing people who quickly became my friends throughout the trip. My favorite part was definitely climbing to the top of the Duomo with my peers because it felt like a bonding experience, and we all got closer from it.”

Dylan Gillett | NC A&T ’29
