Student U New Student Application for the Class of 2028 is now available. Applications are due on Dec 7! // Solicitudes para estudiantes nuevos de Student U para la clase de 2028 ya están disponibles. La fecha límite es el 7 de diciembre!

Applications are open to any current middle school student and rising sixth-graders who will be first in their families to attend college and/or students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. We are primarily seeking to recruit students who are performing at or slightly below grade level. // Las solicitudes están abiertas para cualquier estudiante actual de escuela intermedia y estudiantes de sexto grado que serán los primeros en sus familias en asistir a la universidad y / o estudiantes que califiquen para almuerzo gratis o reducido. Principalmente buscamos reclutar estudiantes que su promedio de calificaciones sea a nivel del grado o un poco menor.

Student U is a community organization that uses the power of education to build a just and equitable Durham. We empower and equip first-generation college students in Durham Public Schools, their families, and educators to become the leaders that will transform our city. We walk with students and families from sixth grade through college graduation, providing holistic support at each step along the way. We believe our students are powerful, and this power will help us realize a Durham where all students succeed. // Student U es una organización comunitaria que utiliza el poder de la educación para construir un Durham justo y equitativo. Capacitamos y equipamos a estudiantes universitarios de primera generación en las Escuelas Públicas de Durham, sus familias y educadores para que se conviertan en los líderes que transformarán nuestra ciudad. Caminamos y trabajamos con estudiantes y familias desde sexto grado hasta su graduación universitaria, brindando apoyo integral en cada paso del camino. Creemos que nuestros estudiantes son poderosos, y con este poder nos ayudará a realizar un Durham donde todos los estudiantes tengan éxito.

How Will You Change The World?

“ If I could change the world, I would change from gas to solar energy, using solar panels. Solar energy is everywhere because of the sun. I like the idea of solar robots, solar-powered cars and boats, and solar-powered toys. Solar panels are all around us. They are in calculators, highway signs and on the rooftops of people’s houses. This change affects our environment and our lives.”

Niadiquay Everette, a Student U alumna, embodies the essence of who we have been, who we’re becoming, and what we believe is possible. Niadiquay is the first in her family to graduate college. She used the power of education and her voice to achieve greatness. Now in the classroom, she is changing the learning environment to ensure one day all students succeed in college and beyond.

 

Donald is a High School Graduate as part of the Class of 2020. His dream is to rebuild Durham to make it affordable for people already living in this community. Donald has a goal to buy a piece of real estate and graduate physical therapy school by the time he is 21.
