OPPORTUNITIES FOR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS

IGHID Research Study
We are looking for members of the community of all ages and
youth between the ages of 13-24 years who are interested in
participating in a research study about HIV prevention in youth in Durham, N.C.

Individual of all ages are invited to:
Become a member of a group discussing the research strategy and issues important to the health of youth in Durham ($40 compensation per meeting; Six 1-hour meetings, once a month)

  • If you are between the ages of 13-24 years old you are invited to:
  • Participate in a youth-centered workshop to brainstorm about HIV prevention ($50 gift card for one four-hour workshop)
  • Participate in a survey about HIV risk and prevention ($20 gift card to complete a 20 minute survey)
  • Participate in a face to face interview about HIV risk and prevention ($40 gift card for a 1 hour face to face interview)

Durham Youth Commission 2019-2020 Application
High school aged teens who live in Durham, and are committed to amplifying the voices of youth in Durham, are encouraged to apply.

Teens can submit an application either online, in person or by mail. For more information about the DYC, important dates and how to apply, review the DYC 2019-2020 Application. Application deadline is Friday, September 27 at 5pm.

We are hoping to recruit 12-15 high school aged teens who:

  • Live in Durham
  • Want to change and improve their community and local government
  • Show leadership skills
  • Represent the diverse lived experiences of young people in Durham
  • Are passionate about equity and social justice

Youth Facilitated Focus Group Series
In order to get some qualitative data around the statistics found in the 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, high school students are welcome to participate in a series of focus groups on a variety of topics. Each of these focus groups are facilitated by youth; therefore, only youth are in the room. For this particular focus group, the topic will be access to sexual health education, birth control, and reproductive health care in Durham county. For any youth interested, they must be willing to share their opinions regarding this topic. Youth must register using this link http://bit.ly/YouthFocusGroups and must be able to obtain parental consent (if under 18 years old). Any youth that participate in this focus group will be given a $15 Walmart Gift Card and free food and drinks during the event.
