As we gather this morning to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our Class of 2020, we acknowledge the recent murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breanna Taylor, George Floyd, and all other Black people whose names we will never know. These deaths have been devastating to our community. We affirm the lives of all Black people and stand in direct opposition to the narratives and stories that suggest that they are not worthy of dignified, humane treatment by our government. We believe that #BlackLivesMatter and will continue to work to make Student U a place where our children can be their authentic selves, can be safe and loved by us. We mourn with those grieving and support the protestors who have gathered across the country to demand justice for Black lives. We look forward to holding space for joy to celebrate our seniors as fuel to continue the work of dismantling systems of oppression.
