Bettina's primary responsibility is to l
ead and oversee our program teams in the daily work with students and families. She serves on the leadership team where she supports big picture thinking and planning decisions for Student U. She also serves as a community liaison in forming partnerships for Student U.

Bettina's Why:
I believe in the power that education has to change outcomes for students and families. My work is to help see that power realized for all students in Durham. I invest in Student U because we have created a safe and supportive community that encourages our students dream big, challenge the status quo and be the change they wish to see in the world. I believe our students and families are the change levers for a more just and equitable society.

Bettina outside of Student U:
Outside of Student U, I serve on the Durham Public Schools Board of Education where I advocate for equitable policies, procedures and practices that will better the outcomes for all students in Durham. I also enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends as well as traveling.

Advice Bettina finds valuable:
To do this work well, you must cultivate trust. This is intentional work that is done by listening, valuing what families bring to the table, allowing their goals to drive the work and by walking humbly alongside.
